Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

Here it is almost 2AM, and 3 percocets, 2 valium and 1 phenergan later, I STILL can't sleep. Needless to say, I can't take anything else. Pain is back down to a 9/10 after being about a 12/10 all day. AND, what is frustrating even more, the drs. can't agree on what is causing the pain - whether it is the cancer or the MS. I tried to convince them it was a combination of the two.
Anyway... I need to figure out a way to start sleeping. I've tried the warm baths (hot not good due to MS). I've tried all kinds of O/C stuff, all kinds of prescription sleep aids, etc.,
Talked to my mom, her suggestion - just lay down and close your eyes. DUH!!! But, then again, she never has been any support. She even argued with me the other day about me having MS. Asking, well, when did you get that? I reminded her that I was diaganosed with it in 1995. SHe then said - well, I don't think anything is wrong - you seem fine. To which point I told her I had another call coming in and had to go, so she hung up on me. Oh well!!!!
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. Hope everyone else gets a restful nights sleep! If you have any tricks, please let me know.
Thanks!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Don't eat after 6pm.
Don't watch TV in bed, bed is for sleeping
The room should be cool but not cold.
The room should be pitch dark.
Go to sleep at the same time every night
Do not nap
No caffeine after 3pm this means soda and tea also
Best Wishes
Ouch
So, there are some nights that I have problems sleeping.
I have been using klonepin for years. I wonder if that might help you.
Btw, your mother sounds like my mother. They must be related, lol... Its not funny I know, its very difficult to go through life with a mother so deep in denial that she cant be there for you.
I have shared this on here before, I do as Ouch suggested, really the no tv works, and then I do a combination of techniques.
First I relax my muscle. Lay down, start with your toes, squeeze, release, continue up your body until you have relaxed even you forhead. Takes practice, but wonderful.
Next, I do deep breathing, inhale deeply, hold for a count of 6, exhale, repeat as needed, at least 4 times. Sends oxyegen to you brain.
My last step, if needed, is visualization. That is where you meditate about your favorite place in the world, think about it, the sounds, the smells, the feeling, such as, I visualize the beach, hearing the waves, the seagulls in the air, the smell of the salt water, the feel of the sun of my back.
Sounds like a lot, but I have it down after years of practice. (lol) 5-10 minutes I am out like a light, no sleeping pills either. It is wonderful. Wonderful to sleep like your suppose to. I hope this never goes away, I never want to stay up all night long again. Hey, hurts like hell when I get up, but I sleep...........
Oh, I even started dreaming again, happy, silly, lighthearted dreams......wonderful.
