More advice required please!
I had some blood tests done via an ecological GP and she diagnosed the onset of adrenal fatigue (slightly higher than normal cortisol/ lower than average DHEA). She has advised me to start taking 5mg of DHEA daily. A tiny quantity so nothing to get too excited about but ... has anyone else improved by taking DHEA or know anything at all about this hormone (slightly off-putting that it's also used by body-builders!)?

Hi Kate, I too was just tested for Adrenal fatigue. My cortisol level was ok. Adrenal fatigue is one of the illnesses that causes fatigue as well as various other problems. The expert on this one is SharonHanson. You can message her if she's not on today, otherwise I know she will respond to this post. She will be happy to chime in on this one. DarlaC

My Dr is treating me for DHEA deficiency, too. It is actually the hormone that is used by the body to make all the other hormones; it is called the "mother hormone" for this reason. As long as you do NOT use mega-high doses, then it is not dangerous. Mine is delivered via a cream that I apply to my upper leg.

I have adrenal insufficiency and Im trying to get well. According to my biotoxin savvy doctor its MSH that is the mother of all hormones. Low MSH is consistent with biotoxin disease. My biotoxin disease is exposure to mold. The toxins from the mold infiltrated my hypothalamus and messed up the messages to my other hormones especially my adrenals. I also think that chronic inflammation plays a role in interfering with messages from our hypothalamus. Anyway for me it was critical to find the cause and I spent eleven months doing nothing but research. I was getting progressively worse and I thought I would eventually die. I finally got some help from someone in this discussion group and I can tell you that if she hadnt helped me I would still be in a hopeless situation that is trying to diagnose myself and educate my doctors at the same time.

I took Pregnenolone for a number of years, it is another form of DHEA which is better for woman as it has less side affects. I was taking this with other supplements doing a treatment from Gerald Poesnecker N.D. in Pensylvania. I am sure it helped me, in fact that treatment got me over a big hump into abit more of normality. I know doctors here prescribe it to some ME patients now.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
