Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Support Group
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) describes a sense of exhaustion and post-exertion malaise, even when you have gotten enough rest and sleep. The disease is characterized by six months of incapacitating fatigue experienced as profound exhaustion and extremely poor stamina, and problems with concentration and short-term memory. The cause is unknown, but it is a...

I spoke with her yesterday. I am curious to see if she talked to anyone else on here. I checked her out first before I gave her my phone number by calling ABC News in New York, and she is indeed a freelance writer for them, although she doesn't have an extension there. She called me from the ABC news number though.
Apparently, the article is about the recent influx of studies related to a supposed high prevalence of personality disorders in CFS/Fibro patients. She wanted to do an article related to CFS/Fibro patients opinions on these studies and what it is like to deal with this illness. She seemed really concerned that I would be offended. I told her that I was not offended, but not surprised either, as it seems that in the medical community, if doctors can't find the answers they blame the patient and determine that it's all the patient's head.
I told her about my symptoms, onset of illness and daily life, and tried to include as much as I could about what my fellow CFS'er's and Fibro friends deal with on a daily base, including the responses we get from doctors and the frustration that goes along with it.
I really tried to pull it together to speak with her as this is so important. I only had three hours of sleep the night before. Yikes.
Anyway, she is legit, but as far as the article goes, I haven't seen it yet. I don't know when they update the website for new publications. Also, as she is freelance, there is a risk that the article could be axed, or not posted as timely as expected. I'm going to keep checking as I want to see how she conveys all this information.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...

Really wish I could sleep like a normal person! I read something earlier about my mind possibly associating my bed/bedroom with insomnia and that's why I am unable to fall asleep in there no matter how tired I am. So a typical night for me...I go to lay down around 10-11pmI will be sleepy but as soon as I get comfortable I will end up being wide awake or my son will come into the room.I have a 3...
What is the matter with these people????
I am watching for the article too, and only found a picture and cannot find the actual article.
I will keep checking here too and will post the link if I find it...
Yes, mental illnesses can cause somatic symptoms, such as headaches, unusual tiredness, stomach problems, and lack of concentration, and insomnia. However, does mental illness cause hormone imbalances, swollen lymph glands, ear and eye infections, med sensitivities, etc, etc, etc? Does mental illness cause unusual blood tests indicating elevated lymphocytes, active viral infection, elevated growth hormone, and all the other strange things that just do not add up? Obviously, there are physical elements at work here!
I guarantee that 100% of us would be more than willing to accept a diagnosis of a mental health disorder if we could then be treated and go back to our normal functioning lives before we got sick. In many cases, mood stabilizers and antidepressants do not help and even exacerbate the symptoms!
I could go on and on and on....
I will keep checking for the article as well. I found the picture that you are speaking of too, but with no article. That picture was posted yesterday, so maybe we'll see it soon. If she took any of my words out of context I will not be pleased.
I glad she turned out to be real but I don't see her article as being good for either CFS or FM with this theroy of personalitiy disorders. I hope I'm wrong.
There are many people in this world that had trauma as children, thats a bunch of bull. I think if any thing our personalitiies help us to survive trauma and go on to lead health lives. What about all the people that did have trauma as a child that are living normal lives and aren't sick with CFS and Fibro? Why aren't they sick? I know people that suffered trauma as a child and are very successful people in life and healthy. Sorry but this makes no sense to me and I do take offense to it.....see this is why I stopped reading about medical research!
I have been keeping up with the research because I wanted to know what the heck I was dealing with. The most important thing I learned is a sad thing: I have to minimize my frustration when I go to a doc appt. in order to appear "stable," and "not crazy." :(
I agree with all the comments, I have not met ONE CFS sufferer that wants to be ill. This is not something we are making up to not work or whatever the new theory of personality disorders is designed to do to us.
I, like many others, just want my life back. But sadly, that may never happen and with nonsense like this, medical help may never be forthcoming.
My thoughts are with all of you and all suffers of CFS.
I am still being told and treated as if my pain has been all in my head all along, two years later. Chaps my ass, I tell you!
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo........had to get that out. Thank GOD for you guys here!
Geez, friggin' Louise...we're nutcases, people! Driven crazy by stupid doctors and studies and "concerned" people.....grrrrrr.....
My fiance's father got in a car accident about five years ago and was having neck pain. His doctor tried to give him antidepressants. Turns out he had to have neck surgery. Depression is the darling diagnosis of doctors for everything they can't explain.
I agree with you deputy: If I am crazy it's because I've been driven to that point by doctors!
If we didn't have this damned illness our personalities would be just friggin' fine.
Is THAT what the article is about? 'Cause that's just lame.
CTSD - I just made that up...
