Celiac Disease Support Group
Celiac disease is an auto-immune disorder of the digestive system that occurs in genetically-predisposed individuals. It is characterised by damage or flattening to all or part of the villi lining the small intestine, which interferes with the absorption of nutrients. This damage is caused by eating anything with gluten (gliadin), a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley...

Hi everyone-
I am new to this group and I just wanted to say hello. I was reading some posts and it's wonderful how supportive everyone is. I'm 22 years old and after many, many years of extreme pain and illness I found out I have Celiac Disease. It was very depressing and I'm still having a very hard time dealing with it. It's so hard because I am a college student and it bothers me so much to see people just going about their day-grabbing a muffin for breakfast like it's nothing. I miss those days and sometimes I want to go back but I know I can't because honestly the physical pain is just not worth it. Does everyone else here feel extreme pain when they eat gluten products? Or do you now neccesarily always feel pain? I have been on a GF diet for about 3 months now and going strong. I get extremely, extremely upset sometimes but I am trying to stick with it. The problem is, I also have many other food allergies. I am deathly allergic to peanuts (since I was a child) and I cannot eat eggs, and sometimes milk bothers me. Cheese does not bother me, however. Strange? I was wondering if anyone knew of a good GF bread-that doesn't have egg in it-because I found a good one but it had eggs. The ones I have bought are too thick or too soggy and just don't taste like real bread : ( That's what I miss the most. Well I look forward to talking with all of you and if any of you have any questions or need any help feel free to message me anytime! I will do anything I can to help! Best wishes to you all. : )

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
I would recommend that you make your own bread on the weekends-use the Ener-G egg replacer for the eggs in recipes. The box has recipes on it I think. Also, corn tortillas are wonderful for wrap sandwiches. Use a lot of lettuce for extra support. The cheese/dairy problem sounds like you are lactose intolerant but not casein. I recommend V-gest HIGHLY for that. My youngest son is like you --allergic to many things including peanuts and all tree nuts. (I hope you have an epi-pen and keep it with you! I am a mom and worry about these things, lol) I give my son V-gest for when he has dairy and also for when he has other legumes like beans that sometimes bother him. The allergic foods we strictly stay away from, but for foods that sometimes bother his stomach/intestines like beans, the digestive enzymes are amazing for him.
I really hate to tell you this, but real bread is the Holy Grail we are all searching for, lol. None of them are quite as delicious as gluten bread, but we still search and bake in hopes! I am wondering if maybe the Kinnikinnick frozen English muffins are egg free? Those are more like a biscuit and good for sandwiches. I will check for you and let you know. Take care and welcome!

Hopefully these will work!!
So sorry-I am in a rush and misspelled words-so it didn't work.
here is a good 'started' list from a friend on celiac.com forum. Not sure about eggs in some of these but gf to start. Happy you are not casein intollerant so you can eat cheese.

I have a list that should really help. This is overwhelming. I went through this with myself six months ago. You spend most of your day cooking and cleaning obsessively. The rest you are on the phone with reps from companies trying to find out what is safe. I decided to save you the trouble!
1. There are a number of things in the regular grocery that are safe. Some things are labeled already. Wal-Mart's Great Value brand has numerous things you can eat.
2. For the love of God use Coupons on items you are allowed to eat. People can get them and print them out online even. Call some of the local stores and ask if they accept online coupons.
3. Check the ads online and in the newspaper. You would be surprised how many people do not do this.
4. Some items like rice flour and rice noodles are safe to buy at the Chinese or oriental market. The merchants are more than happy to help you if you cannot read the label.
Now, here is my list of great things to get you started:
