We are in serious danger of losing everything we have worked to create. Please light a candle and pray that we catch a break soon! Else all that we hold dear will be lost.
In 2006 I returned from Florida to a homeless shelter. In the shelter I was told that in order to qualify for an apartment I would have to tell DSS that all my utilities were included in the rent, which in fact they werent. Out of my desparity to get my boys (ages now 8 and 5) out of the shelter and into permenate housing, I went for it. I am on SSP.
I was paying 2/3 oil and half of the electric and water through a gentleman that used the downstairs office. He has sinced into the garage and no longer pays for the utilities.
I was also working during this time at the Salvation Army in Patchogue but was fired for religious discrimination. The bills now fall to me as they were never included in my rent.
The electric was put under my Ministry's name which my partner and I are trying so despartly trying to get up and running. The water and oil are not under my name as of yet. Meanwhile I am only recieving 107 and change from unemployment and have to pay out all of it to my landlord to cover my part of the rent for the upstairs apartment which I am renting. DSS is only paying $772 of my 1094 rent which means I have no other source of income to pay for anything else including toilet paper which welfare perceives as being a luxury.
I am waiting for my NYS Certification for Child Care Application to be reviewed so I can start my Child Care Center through the Ministry but in the mean time the rent on the Ministry is also due.
In the meantime, the bills are piling up and I am at a loss as to what to do. If something doesnt happen between now and then, there will be no presents under the tree for my boys ages 8 and 5 and we may end up losing everything we have gained since we've been back from Florida.
I thought the idea of welfare was to get assistance to help us get off the system, not hinder our journey off it.
Is there advice you can give me to help me out of this mess?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
