I am a retired man. When wife and her daughter from previous marraige left I was blindsided with grief. With a fixed income, and cost of splitting things, and lawyer fee's, I prepared for the worst. I fully expected maybe getting enough out for a mobile home, maybe in another warmer state.
As divorce unfolded and finally ended nothing had changed for me. Dumbfounded I had to sit down and fiqure it all out. The attorney fee's, and equity split, new mortgage, and loss of part of my pension should have put me in the poorhouse. We did not have a lot of money in the bank. How was everything getting paid?
Savings with the two gone:
Water bill: went from $109 average to $32 average. About 2/3rds savings with 2/3rds people gone. $77. every 45 days savings.
Food and their neccesities: $100. week savings.
Wifes beer: $12 day plus deposit. Yes, 7 days a week. $84. week savings.
Wifes vodka hidden under car seat: Unknown savings.
Car insurance: Dropped $120 per month. Wife had moving violations, her daughter was teen premium.
There are other savings but I didnt go there. Cloths, doctors, etc...
Savings of $900. minimum for me truly offsets the cost of divorce. It is something you never hear people talk about.
For those waiting for the finacial hammer to fall...maybe it wont!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
This is also a mindset, zoot, you are clearly in a good state of mind and will not let this get you down.
Good for you, my friend!! Good for you!!
Since our split though, even with me paying twice what I may be legally required, it's still less than she was sucking out of my income, too.
