Chapter one
She looked out over the bow of the ship to the water below and contemplated the depths and coldness. She felt like her life was over, and wondered if anyone would miss her, if she jumped.. She was born into a Noble family with all of the expectations that came with that, but never quite made the grade for her Father.. She had grown up in privilege, but wanted to make her own way. Her father never understood why a woman would want to do anything other than marry and have children, so she had no choice but to run away, and try to find a better life for herself. Even if she failed, at least she had tried.......
Chapter Two
She knew that she was taking a huge chance going to America, especially by herself, but her Father ruled with an Iron hand. She had no freedom, even though she was a grown woman of 24. She felt that something was missing from her life, but could not put her finger on what it was, but late at night in her bed, she felt so very alone, She had never had anyone love her as a woman, and was determined to know what that felt like..She met up with her sister in America, and was able to find a position as a teacher. Sadly she found that America was not the land of milk and honey like she thought. Now she was headed back home, with her tail between her legs, to face her Father...She looked back once more at the couples dancing on deck, and started to step over the railing....
Chapter 3
Just as she started to jump, a hand reached out and grabbed her by the collar.." Put me down," she said, as she kicked and struggled to be free.. The large rakish man that had hold of her,
had no intention of letting her jump off his ship. He pulled her back inside, and held her to steady that fire he saw in her deep blue eyes.. She was feisty for a little thing, and he couldn't help but notice that she was put together well, for one so small... She saw where his eyes lingered, and kicked him in the shin as she tried to loosen his grip..

He was a big man, tall and lean. Handsome in that rugged way, but she was not going to show him that she has noticed.. In her life as a teacher, she did not get to see many men, especially ones that looked like this.. He still had hold of her collar, and she was beginning to lose hope that he would ever let her free, when suddenly he let her go, and she fell on the wooden floor. Hummph, some man he was to let her drop, without trying to keep her from falling.. She had determined that he was not worth knowing, and started to walk away, when he grabbed her arm to keep her from going... He said to her, Don't I get some reward for saving your life? "
Chapter 5
She reached into her coin purse to reward him.. She thought he was just a deck hand, but he said, please allow me to introduce myself, Madam.. I am Captain James Brittland, at your service.. She was so embarrassed and apologized, as she took the offered hand.. I was thinking of asking you to Dine in my Cabin.. I have a pretty respectable cook, and I would be delighted to have company, other than the brutes that work for me.. She gave a tiny nervous giggle and said. How very nice of you.. I am so tired of eating the galley food anyway.. I will just freshen myself up and be right back..
Chapter 6
He watched her walk away and felt a stirring that he had not felt in some time. She looked so lost and alone. His protective tendencies came out, and he found himself smiling. He hurried back to his cabin to prepare things for her arrival.. The crew noted that the Captain was sauntering jauntily on deck , but knew better than to ask questions.. They continued working, until they saw a petite lady approaching the Captains door, then they turned to each other and smiled......

(yes, I'm reading my son's pirate book)
The meal was everything James said it would be and more.. She had not had as fine a meal since she left home, and told him so.. God, It felt so good to have someone so attentive around her, and she was in no hurry for the night to end.. The lantern cast a soft shadow on everything in the room and she couldn't help but notice how organized the space was.. She also couldn't help but notice, that he was so tall and built well , and that he smelled nice. She gazed into his brown eyes, in the lantern light, and she felt something start to burn inside her. She was in no hurry for this evening to end...
Chapter 8
The conversation flowed easily, and she became very comfortable in his presence. He was trying very hard to be a gentlemen, but she ignited his senses, and he was feeling like it was his first time with a woman.... He tried to cover his awkwardness by being charming, and he could tell that she was responding.. He did not want this night to end and thought he was telling her too much about himself and the long line of sailors in his family. From his GGgrandfather, ships Carpenter, to himself whom was pressed into service.. She listened attentively and looked so soft and seductive sitting there sipping her glass of wine. He could see that her clothing fit well, and he could see the promise of what was underneath her bodice in the pale light......
