My Ex got one of those books for us..I checked it out recently.. and well there was a lot of forms that I needed to fill out.. general information that the lawyers, judge would need to see.. stuff about financials, assets.. debts..etc...this is in Canada.. and in a specific region..and thru Supreme Court for my divorce.
From what I understand there are different rules from State to State in the US.
go to the internet and look for a book..that gives info for your area.. your State..but then go see a lawyer. Be prepared with the info the lawyer will require, that will save you money on lawyers fees.
yup.. tons of self help guides.. on survival.. damn.. Love yourself.. that is the key.. find yourself and be happy again.. you deserve it.
i found this one a big help. she doesn't talk too much over your head - not too much psycho babble...
it also has some really good exercises in ti that i found very useful.
good luck honey - we can all use as much support as we can get.
Another one I picked up is "A Weekend to Change Your Life" by Joan Anderson. Talks more about taking time for you and finding who you really are. Sometimes it helps to take the focus off of what the relationship was and put the focus on who you are and how to get to know you better. Good luck. I know it's difficult right now.
