I didn't look for
bigger/better, just comfortable. One I definitely could afford without so much $$ going into rent/utilities, etc. A place I felt could be "home" and that I could bring my kids to. I'll be looking again soon :( Good luck!
My advice to you is that do not be surprised of any emotions that may come to the surface during this process. Not sure what kind of advice you were looking for, so take this for what it is worth.
First of all,
be realistic with what you can afford.
Make sure that you feel safe. I went for a smaller place in a nicer area because I felt safer.
I got a PO box that my ex has. We have no kids so he doesn't need to know where I live. Also I didn't know where I was going at first.
I live in an apartment where gas for heat/ cooking is included in my rent. It helps me to not worry about keeping my place warm.
When you pack up to leave, be selfish.
I wasn't. I left nearly everything behind, so it's taking me a while to get furnishings and basic stuff you need to live.
Make it yours. Put up stuff on the walls, make this your sanctuary from the world.
I've got up some things that make this feel more like home than any place I've lived. And I'm always on the look-out for little things to make my home a little more cheerful, inspirational...
Good luck and God Bless
