I think I agree with the others. I tried to do that with my stbx but what seemed to work was my independence. Move on, become independent, and know you will be okay without him.....

It does not make sense but you will find that throwing yourself at him will not have the desired effect that you are looking for. You are actually better off playing it like you could care less and very aloof. If he has any interest in getting back together with you he will be curious and want to persue you. If he does not then you know it is truly over, in most cases. I do have to ask why would you want to give him a chance to do this to you again.
