Yesterday was not a day I was looking forward to--absolutely out of groceries--had to go to the store in deep snow with no auto insurance and a seven-year-old in tow. Then home to lug groceries down the sidewalk and up the stairs, make dinner, and lug lots of garbage down the stairs and to the curb.
I had started bawling in the cheese section at the grocery store, and was not having a good day....
However, much to my surprise, after making like 15 trips up and down the stairs....I felt better!!!!! I don't know why I didn't know this would help that much--I have done graduate work in exercise physiology and wellness, but it's like I know in THEORY that the endorphins released by exercise will help your mood, but hadn't experienced it in so long that I forgot!
SO, having been given a lot of great advice from many folks here, let me offer my own piece back....if you feel crummy, exercise. The more the better....If you feel sore from it, don't worry, you're going to feel emotionally like crap for awhile anyway--might as well multi-task and have sore abs and thighs at the same time you're recovering from your heart being ripped out! By the time you're done feeling bad emotionally, you'll be fitter and/or thinner, AND you won't feel AS emotionally bad, because you'll be flooding your body with those feel-good endorphins!
Exercise, exercise, exercise! It'll make you feel better.

I did not feel like walking today but I did and it changed everything. The sun was out and my mood lifted and the emotional load seemed lighter. The world did not change but my feelings changed a lot.
