I may get hammered on this, but what the hell is happening to our freedom of speech on DS??????
Can someone explain why certain comments are pulled from posts? It seems to me that our freedom of expression is, at least in part, being denied.
By pulling only certain comments from threads, continuity is compromised and readers don't get the full picture of what was said. How can we form opinions and respond appropriately when some of the information is missing? How are we going to get to know people if part of what they post is censored?
I discovered that a rather scathing (IMHO) comment aimed directly at me was removed and I resent that. Additional similar comments aimed at least two other posters, as well as at least one of their responses were also removed. I think that when people post to a thread, everyone has a right to read both sides and ALL opinions posted so they can decide for themselves as to the value of the content.
What we post is a direct reflection on who we are. Those who post (for lack of a better all inclusive term) unpleasant remarks should not be protected by having their posts removed. This results in a misrepresentation of the poster's character.

When nobody is interested, aloneness is the only path available. Online if you don't look like, or are, a celebrity or model, forget it. Time passes but nothing changes.

theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??
were they all by the same person? maybe they were banned, doesn't that remove all posts by them?
More than half of them were by the OP.
The original thread is still alive and kicking.
I would like to know who these moderators are and what is the criteria for posting replies.
If we know what is not allowed...then we can not waste our time posting. If we are going to be individually targeting based on our posts then we may as well just leave DS because our contributions are not considered of any value.
It seems to me a lot of crap threads are allowed to continue, and some members are being shouted down and reported, or worse being targetted and shouted down by members.
I have no idea what is going on here.
We come in here.. we exchange comments, have dialogue and we even have fun and post silly things...but now I don't know what is what if we are being censored.
This is BS if it is true.
But here's where the ideals of a virtual environment run into the realities of running one.
You want lots of users looking at lots of ads, but you also want to minimize your overhead as much as possible.
So, instead of moderators, you have an abuse e-mail address on here that you can send messages to regarding posts, posters, or anything else you can think of.
The different communities on here have different ways of dealing with people who come in, cause trouble, then wonder what the problem is. Some people don't like confrontation, so they report people at the first sign of a disturbance.
Some people will always stick with the "if you don't like something, you should ignore it." Yeah, 'cuz that works sooo well.
Regardless, there are lots of things that happen on here as far as censorship that occur at someone's discretion, usually someone who isn't part of the community in question, and who has a vague description of the issue at hand.
Maybe they thought that only certain posts were unnecessary, and the rest were valid? What are the rules as far as a post and the ensuing replies as far as the ToU/ToS go?
I've seen entire threads disappear before. It's as if they never happened.
But you bring up an interesting point; who decides what stays and what goes?
I agree with you. When I post a thread I want honesty not watered down 'yes' speak. Also, each responder reveals a tiny bit of themselves with their response. That is important as you develop relationships and friendships on DS. You find persons of like mind and persons of challenging mind and persons of repulsive mind.........then you decide who has valid input. Sometimes, it is from the least expected. Censorship makes no sense.
How can we possibly help someone if the posts are manipulated and the true person is not allowed to shine through? I am here for real honest input, advice. Someone may open my eyes to a way I had not seen before or I may open theirs as long as the comments are open, and honest, and not manipulated.
This is way more serious than not allowing the words bitch or ass in a chat.
just my opinion..
I do agree that the posts should remain for historical and reference purposes. It is censorship and it's wrong IMO.
poor form indeed.
lets start the timer!
No one is on trial here. This is not a site to make or break a person. At best it is a place to send and recieve idle comments on topic. Comments that may have a lot of meaning at the moment but may be frivolus the next day.
I think that is why they call all the forums collectively "Daily Strength".
This is not a democratically run ward in a rehab unit....lol.
Just my opinion on topic is all.
