Hi all,
Just wondered if any of you wonderful people had some advice. My brother is at the point where he's still in hospital, not ready for rehab and the most interaction he gets with hospital staff is the physio. What can his visitors be doing to help him? I feel like he's kinda left in the corner till he gets better and if he doesn't, he doesn't. I want to give him every chance in the fullest recovery. I feel like I'm not helping. I talk to him and hold his hand, etc but it doesn't feel like I'm doing enough. Anyone got any ideas? He seems so unhappy and frustrated too. Any experiences/advice with responding to commands would be great - he just doesn't seem to
Thanks guys
Bec

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I had a triumph today! I walked on the treadmill for 15 minutes!
Read; told stories of his past; what was happening currently; we got the therapy balls that he could try holding in his hands; showed him pictures; worked his limbs for him that he could not move freely on his own; put lotion on his hands and feet; sang to him (even though inside I was probably screaming SHUT UP :))
All I can relate is my own experience with Wes my son. He went through a stage where he wasn't able to make himself clearly understood and he would get so frustrated. He would either whisper or yell, he would also try and bite us to stop us keeping the tubes in, eg. nasal tube and cathetur. Happily we can laugh with him about it now. The worst thing was he would ask us to strangle him. Thank god this stage didn't last long!!! But as the nurses said any response is a good response better than nothing at all.
I used to read surfing magazines to Wes. I also used to massage his feet and legs and this seemed to help to calm him down.
Best wishes to you Bec. Its such a long road.
Thanks again, Bec
