Traumatic brain injury occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of the damage to the brain. Outcome can be anything from complete recovery to permanent disability or death. A coma can also affect a child's brain.

Hello, I am here in hopes of finding someone that can relate to the situation I'm in. On June 3 my brother was shot multiple times by a retired officer during a road rage incident that began as a verbal altercation. You can look up the details at Darrensfightforlife@myspace.com or search him Darren Pickerill under google.
Anyway I am looking for information on how to help him with his recovery. I am hearing from family that he is no longer progressing with his therapy and although he wasn't expected to live he has come so far. I'm just not sure what else we can do. He is currently in a long term care facility with a TBI unit however they are not achieving the results we had hoped for. Are there any other facilities that anyone knows of that could be of help? He is 34 years old and I just want to help him in anyway I can.
Thanks

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Have you looked for a group home in the area that houses just brain injured people?
I know how difficult it is to see someone you love so different. Stay strong, he needs that.
