I mostly post on the divorced/separated list, but another very big part of my life has been helping my 16 year old since her cerebral bleed due to an arteriovenous malformation last March. She is actually doing much better than those who have faced survival after a traumatic accident. Her congenital condition was there from birth, but we didn't know until last March when a friend in school took her to the health room because things weren't right. The bleed was intracerebral and affected her left temproparietal lobe area. She also suffered a stroke when they tried to stop the bleeding by endovascular surgery (implanting something to block the flow). Her malformation is a tangle of veins, arteries and cappillaries with arterial high power flow misconnected to capillaries and veins. Thus the break. She had speech, memory, vision, and coordination problems. She is back in school and looks fine unless you are really observent. She can't retain complex new material in school, which is killing her grades, and she still has a right field vision cut. Last summer we did Gamma Knife therapy to start the process of breaking down the AVM. It can't be operated on because it is too deep and in the speech center. We would risk her losing the ability to speak her neurosurgeon said. Next week we have her first MRI since this summer's gamma rays, and we will learn whether it was correctly targetted. This form of treatment takes 4-5 years to eliminate the malformation, and bleeding remains a possibility until its gone. I would love to talk with anyone who has a teen affected by brain injury. My daughter is brave, and strong, but it is so hard to see her struggle.

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...
Has anyone tried these supplements? Do they give MGers more quality of life by improving memory and overall well being? Thanks!Barbel
