I have been all over the net and I cant find an answer anywhere. I want to know how long it takes for lithium to kick in fully. If anyone has taken it can you let me know how long it took to be in full effect. I know everyones different but I just want an idea. By the way Im taking it for depression only (not bi-polar) so Im wondering more about when you felt the depressive feelings subside.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Lithium is also in salt form and is thus processed by the kidneys, thus dehydration and over hydration can effect it and its effects.
Litium has been the standard treatment for over 50 years. There is mounds of info on it ,and it's sucess, and side effects.
At the bottom of this DS page is a common treatment medications list.Litium is there. At the top of this DS page ,there is a section, where you can look up drug treatments, and how DS users rate them.
Use Google..type in Litium, the Mayo clinic has good refrences.
Go to Ask.com,type in Litium or bipolar.....there are page upon pages of info on Litium.
I would be a great many people on DS have or have taken Litium.

How long does it take for lithium to work?
"For lithium to reach its maximum effectiveness, two to three weeks are often required. To control severe mania, healthcare providers will often prescribe other medications while waiting for lithium to take effect. When the manic symptoms improve, the other medications may eventually be stopped or lowered. However, in many cases, people need more than one medication to maintain longterm stability."
I was told Lithium helps control mania and I'm usually depressed so it didn't help me. I took it with Desipramine. Of course we all respond differently to meds.
My sister has been using her family doc to get meds for bipolar and depression but there is no followup and I think he is giving her the wrong stuff.
