Saw pdoc today, I can't take lithium any more b/c of my thyroid...I don't want to go on depakote b/c I am afraid of the weight gain (diabetes runs rampant in my family). So, I am wondering what other people take. My BP is rapid cycling, more often severely depressed, but also a lot of manic episodes, some mixed episodes. Any thoughts?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
It took them five years to come up with this combination, but I have been stable for two years and it's the ONLY thing that has worked for me.
GOOD LUCK!
Seroquel has been mentioned, and that's definitely one I forgot about. At high doses, antipsychotics work as mood stabilizers, which is why I'm on nearly the max dosage of it. You should definitely mention all this to your doc. I mean, he/she will already know all of this, of course, but let him/her know you're concerned and are anxious to find the right med combo. For me, it's Depakote and Seroquel, combined with a few others, but again...different ppl need different meds.
Good luck!
