So many times we hear all the negative things about psychiatric medications. Everyone is always so worried about the side effects. What are some good things about psychiatric medications? How much are you taking? What is working for you? I will start.....
My entire medication "cocktail" is working very well for me. I take
200 mg Lamictal
This medication started working almost immediately when I first started taking it. I had a mild headache for a couple days but that was about it.
10 mg Celexa
My pdoc seems to think it is working in conjunction with the Seroquel. Since Seroquel has a tendency to cause sedative qualities.
0.5 mg Ativan
I take this with all my other meds right before bed time. Takes the edge off
600 mg Seroquel
This medication has been a God send for me. It helps me sleep very well and it's anti-depressive qualities are working very well. The weird thing about this med is the higher the dose the less sedating it is.

First, Id like to thank everyone for being so welcoming, kind and helpful. I start Lamotrigine tomorrow and after reading some side effects in a post I'm (more) nervous. I was wondering other experiences people have had with this medication, the good and the bad.Any feedback would be appreciated!

What side effects from psych meds do you live with? We have to try several medications and many do not work out because of side effects. But, eventually, we have to choose a medication to stay on, but this medication may still have some side effects that continue. What side effects did you choose to accept and stay on the medication because the benefits outweighed the negatives? For me, while I'm...
Seroquel for sleep, lexapro and wellbutrin for depression, abilfy for my hypomania sxs and klonopin for anxiety. My mood stays at about a 5 on a scale from 1 - 10.
How much citalopram were you taking? If it was a low dose then I wouldn't worry. I do hope when you decided not to take them you weaned yourself off of them slowly. If done too rapidly it could result in seizures and other nasty things. I hope you find a the right combination soon. I understand it is very frustrating at times but with perseverance and diligence you will find the right ones.
Good Luck!
I also take Lexapro for depression and anxiety and Ambien for sleep. I could be doing better but think maybe it's just the time of year it is this year getting to me as well as adverse reactions to some medications I took which were prescribed by other docs.
Any chance of getting a new psychiatrist? If you can't, remember you have rights as a consumer. You have the right to make it perfectly clear about what you want and expect from your treatment. Making a list before you see you doctor is helpful.
Good luck!
I've been stable for almost three years with like two slightly depressing couple of months in the beginning and one in the middle, but nothing bad.

Trifluoperazine: also called Stelazine is the only that that works for my manic side. It rids me of delusions and hostility. I've been taking it since '95 @ 2mg x 1 a day. They prescribed 3 a day but I feel too lethargic if I take it during the day, so I only take 1 at night so I can sleep basicly.
-----------------------------
I take 1 x 100mg Trazadone along with the Trifluoperazine before bed. Helps me sleep all night.

1 Wellbutrin XL 150mg in the morning with my coffee. Gives me the sense of energy I need to start the day. Works perfectly to nip the morning blahs in the bud.
