In one of the responses to "Turning the tables on freewill" mystarlite mentions that sometimes people use their illness as an excuse for poor behavior. I have often wondered about this myself. Where does my illness stop and my personality begin? For instance, I have been manic lately and have been spending more money. I still feel like I have a choice whether to spend but I just want things *so* much that its overwhelming. I'm a pretty reasonable shopper when I'm stable IMHO. I buy what I need and some of what I want. This question encompasses more than just shopping. What about hypersexuality and irritability? How much can you attribute to an illness? How do you tell? Thoughts?
