jesus... seems like theres so much hostility in here.... anyways... i just saw my med doc, and hes upping my topomax from 100mg to 150mg. i've done alot of research where they're saying there's no proof that topomax does anything or provides any relief to a "bipolar" brain. anyone else on topomax? i think it's actually helping me but it could just be all in my head :)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I take Topamax along with Lamictal & Seroquel (switching to Abilify tomorrow). Topamax is used as migraine preventative & back up mood stabilizer as I am a rapid cycler. I definitely think it helps, before I felt so dysphoric I was thinking I just needed to be hospitalized & I seriously contemplated suicide everyday. The moods are there, but much less severe now, I can think first before acting impulsively & no more migraines! Side effects are 20lb unneeded weight loss & tingly heels if I don't drink enough water. On 150mg of it now & seem to be doing much better by comparison. If you think it's helping, it probably is, go with it! Best of luck to you!
I am on Lamictal and Topomax and I am very stable and feel less constrained than I did when I was on lithium. I like this a lot better! The Topamax has a side effect of weight loss so if you don't need to lose a few pounds. Unless you make a concious effort to eat and maintain your weight. Talk to your dr. about the side effects. I haven't had any weird side effects. I like the combination of the Lamictal and Topomax. I am also on Wellbutrin and Abilify and am doing great. This is the best I have felt since I diagnosed in 1996 and first put on meds. Good luck and I hope the dr. can help. Bee
