Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
But manic symptoms are not as weel understood or recognized by those that have it - usually it involves a diminished need for sleep, eating less, and anything that "feels good" is out of control. ie: spending, drinking, drugs, gambling, sex, etc.
Bipolar disorder is earmarked when both these extremes are experienced - it can be mixed episodes, where both depression and mania symptoms are happening at once, or rapid cycling, where one extreme is switched to another several times a day or several times a week. Or, it can range from episodes that happen with "normal' states in between, for as long as years at a time.
This is one reason why it can be so difficult to diagnose.
