Has anyone had difficulty in getting off of an antidepressant medication?

I just talked to a gal who has tried to taper off for 8 yr.
I had no idea they were that addictive.

I have a freind that claims she got addicted to hers. But I don't think it's addiction in the sense that you're brain is tricking you in to needing something. I think it's you are getting a chemical and hormone that keeps you in balance, and when you change or don't need it anymore it's dangerous to go cold turkey. It's like turning off a light bulb in your brain, instead of slowing dimming it. Your brain dosen't have time to adjust to the darkness.

Sometimes on SSRI's our bodies build up a resistancy (happened to my husband) and he was slowly taken off the one that wasn't working and slowly put on one that is working.

Her body is probably just reminding her that she needs it. Is she working with her PDoc during this process, or is it an idea of her own?

I am in the middle of coming of an SSRI and have found it very difficult though my pdoc did take me off them in a week and i started a new stronger type although i don't think i am addicted in the sense i have to have them i think my body got used to the chemical and when the chemical level dropped i went into withdrawal i.e feeling sick, dizzy, swimmy head and feeling lousy hopefully over time this will settle down as my body adjusts it's just not very nice right now.

    theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??

    I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
