I read every lonnnng info paper that comes with my meds. At some point amid all the possible side affects, they all state (paraphrase here)
After careful consideration, your doctor/health care provider, has concluded that the possible benefits of taking this drug, outweigh the posibilities of serious side affects.
I am on meds for many different medical needs, not just psych. I haven't seen a med, yet, that doesn't list many different possible side affects.
I've had some doozies--one med caused me to have minor siezures--one caused serious brain "zapping", one caused liver pain, almost immediately. One gave me hives and closed my throat.
If you start to have side affects that you can't live with, or that frighten you, just see or talk to your pdoc...mine does phone consults, too.
good luck and try not to panic. Not every side affect happens to every person.

The hives and closing throat ,indicate an allergic reaction....very dangerous...you are advised to seek immediate med care on the patient Info papers,if you have this reaction!

good advice! It's crucial to read up on meds & other treatments. I read medical journal articles online (google Bipolar treatments Mayo Clinic or Johns Hopkins etc.) and talk w/my MD & therapist about newer meds. I had to stop Lithium b/c of bad liver tests. Tests are OK now.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
