I've been recently diagnosed with Bi-polar although I have had severe clinical depression off and on for 5 years now. After trying many different non-medicated treatments (apart from using a Naturopath and "drugs" such as St. John's Wort), I have decided to go ahead with Medication. I'm taking Lithium and Lovan (which I understand to be like Prozac) and I'm scared.
I'm scared that it will cause health problems for me in the future, I;m scared about what I'll do when I decide to have children (I've been instructed that I would need to stay on the Lithium), I'm scared that it will take months or even years until they find the right treatment for me... >_<
I guess I'd like to hear some positive stories and experiences from other medicated people.
My family is against the use of drugs to treat this, while my partner is for whatever makes me well. I feel so lost and conflicted with my own decision.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
It hurt but not as much as where my head was.If Lithium would help me in the long-run then that was more important.
9 years later..now..I am given lowered amounts of Lithium.Half my original dose and then some.
That's not as pleasantly surprising as being alive.
