Rapid Cycling
Bipolar disorder with rapid cycling is diagnosed when a person experiences four or more manic, hypomanic, or depressive episodes in any 12-month period. Rapid cycling can occur with any type of bipolar disorder, and may be a temporary condition for some people.
anyone got a serious answer. i do need to know.
is it possible that you wouldnt really know what state you were in becase it were always changing?
are they manias or hypomanias?
is their a typical lenght, ie, a day, an hour, a week? or is it different for everyone? and would the high be the same length as the low?
sorry
Oh, I really feel for you if you are joining this club. The last year has been a hell of sorts since the rapid cycling really went into full force. I think the definition is technically when you experience "4 or more episodes within a 12 month period". I have had way more than that & the pattern has not been consistent enough to keep a calender or schedule my life around it. It has felt relentless at times, the mixed episodes for me personally have been the most terrifying & one of those did require a hospitalization. Since then I have taken things a lot more seriously, as far as the meds, lifestyle, routine, everything. The moods are still there, but the meds do make it possible for me to go on with life. Sometimes I do feel like giving up & my head is spinning with so many thoughts at once I fear it might explode, but then there are also days when I smile & truly enjoy the simple pleasure in life. This IS worth fighting, don't give up. Even after just a few months & not fully adjusting to the meds, I am finding some real quality moments in life again. All best!
It's heavy and impossible to function at all for periods.I didn't write for ages, or read etc.Could not compute information.
Honestly...don't let the term 'rapid cycling' confuse you.The Psych will tell you if you are rapid cycling or just projecting something where you may not be.Out of fear.My psych said that many people do get in to this wrong path of thinking they are rapid cycling when they are just in anxiety.
You should be okay. What meds are you on ?
Peace
Well, if they sort that stuff out then they should get you on some meds to help control this.Be strong and the GP will help.Any complaints and you have their backing at least. All the best for hospital.
vallium being the newest addition.
as of tmrw i am to be a day patient at the hospital with the crisis team and theyve promised me a proper assessment and a medication review.
i dont know if im rapid cycling, i still dont know if im bp. but it fits. and rapid cycling, or being plain crazy and several different people fits best.
You are not diagnosed yet.So don't draw any comparisons to any of these terms yet. They belong to the diagnosed.
You can worry about that when you are seen to and properly assessed.
I am only saying this in order for you to preserve energy.
