I am very concerned for someone. She is BP I, & I am afraid she has gone into a manic episode which I think is turning into psychosis now. She got very angry & enraged at her boyfriend, went into the kitchen & tipped over the refrigerator which smashed into the floor breaking bits of tile every where. Then she proceeded to take a hammer & destroy all of the glass cabinets & granite countertops in the newly remodeled kitchen. The whole kitchen is a complete mess now!!
After the rage on the kitchen was done, she began punching herself in the face repeatedly! She punched herself square in the eye, so hard it left evidence of a shiny black & blue color immediately. Then she screamed to her boyfriend "I'm going to have a black eye, you MF'er & then I am going to tell everyone that YOU did it!"
He is a police officer & considering taking her in to a facility, but of course he is also afraid that she will be so angry with him for this that he would never be forgiven.
Any thoughts? Does this sound like mania tuned psychosis to you?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
agencies? Her boyfriend sounds like a wimp, he shoulda carted her off to the ER.
She may be pissed if he brings her in but I always tell families I work with, better to have your family member pissed and getting treatment, than to leave them alone, without treatment to possibly harm themselves/others. When stable, she should get over it when she realizes it was for her own safety.
Gosh, sounds like she did thousands of dollars ofdamage!
The only thing I'd be concerned about... will she still be yelling that her boyfriend gave her the black eye? Being a police officer, that could be a very serious accusation.
I'm relieved she is getting help, but it sucks it had to come to this. Oh yes, this was easily 20-30K damage.
Thanks for your responses! Lesson: don't stop the meds without pdoc's consent! Whew, scary situation...
She said she would HATE all of us if we made her go, but I do think when she comes back to her senses, she will see that it was out of love & concern for her best interest here.
I'm glad she will be getting help. Hopefully she will stay on her meds this time. Do you think that, perhaps, a case worker would be good for her to have?...someone to come by once a week or so to check on her and make sure she's taking her medication? I was offered one of those and refused, but I think in her case, it would be much more helpful.
He (the boyfriend) is a bit concerned about that. He really could lose his job over such an allegation. I hope that she will just forget about that, I really think she almost "became someone else" during that explosive outburst. So she may have no recollection of that, let's hope anyway.
However, this person IS a threat of harm both to herself and her boyfriend, and definintely needs to be hospitalized immediately for her own safety as well as the safety of others.
It may cost the relationship, but it also may cost one or both of their lives if he doesn't.
That's actually a great idea! I believe that her pdoc just added Borderline Personality Disorder to her DX & somehow that triggered her to stop the meds, become angry. I'm not sure if that even makes sense, but she has a tremendous amount of anger pent up with as we saw, can be very destructive!
I'll say a prayer for both of them. Mary (MHA)
