Anyone else experience going to visit parents who live far away and they display ignoring behavior?
For instance when you arrive there is this excitement and hugs, questions, etc. Then an hour later they either go back to what they where doing, or zone into the TV etc. There is mostly silence except for the droning of the TV, or the talk of whats for dinner. I usually go home alone so there is nothing to fall back on and its a very boring time. This is one of the reasons I hesitate going home for holidays. But its either stay at my place alone and suicidal or go to parents lonely, ignored, bored.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Someone also suggeted volunteering for the holidays. As a former volunteer coordinator I know how helpful that is...to both parties. We always needed extra help on days like Christmas and thanksgiving. It was a wonderful celebration (a women's soup kitchen) and we always had a blast!!! It's very hard to feel unappreciated and ignore it that situation! I'm glad you are looking for a change from that treatment
My mom reads,chain smokes,tv.
We have never played games ROFL!
The last time I played a game with a parent was when I was a teenager and we played Tunk for pennies.
I get nothing
I went to volunteer match.org and one place needs 3people to help prepare dinner for mentally disabled. This is from 9-12. ONLY 3, I doubt they need help now but I will apply.
I figured it out this year, though. Since I am the one who cooks, the order for the day is be nice to Mama or haul your ass to Luby's!!!! and I post it on the front door!!!
Here are two other options to match.org:
Hands On Network....and ....Jersey Cares. I know people who do Boston Cares and really like it. Do you know of any non-profit org. that you like? Or a soup kitchen/shelter place near you. MAybe try calling them directly or looking on line to see when they have avolunteer orientation you could go to.
Sorry...I'll stop with the ideas. I've had too much coffee this morning!!
