My doctor is prescribing me Zyprexa/olanzapine when Abilify is out of my system. It was chosen as an add-on to my Paxil to help with bipolar depression. It was used for me around 2002 for about a year and it worked without muscle effects/EPS. It says online that olanzapine and 3 other atypical antipsychotics have a lower risk of EPS at low doses than most other mood stabilizers. I already tried Seroquel and got akathisia.
I didn't gain much weight on it in 2002, and it helped me sleep well, caused constipation, but I don't remember any other negative side effects. I was on it for a year so side effects could not have been that bad. Going off of olanzapine caused extreme insomnia, however. I think I was on 5 mg. The lowest dose is 2.5 mg which I'll probably be put on to start because of my high sensitivity to neurological side effects, especially EPS. I think it's supposed to help with anxiety also which I'm currently experiencing. Olanzapine works as an antidepressant on its own mildly but better with another antidepressant. Studies showed its efficacy with Prozac. I'm on Paxil.

Then I fired my psychiatrist after he tried to get me to withdraw from Ativan before I stabilized on a mood stabilizer. So while on the waiting list to see a new psychiatrist, I have to use my family...
