For the older women with bipolar disorder.
My wife was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when she was 26 years old, at the birth of our first child. She was prescribed Lithium at the time and it worked very well for her, controling and keeping the highs/lows reasonably level, until she hit menopause at age 44. Then it was like a switch was thrown, throwing all control out the window. For the next 10 years, we went through a living hell with many manic episodes resulting in hospitalizations 3-4 times/year, near bankrupcy, near divorce, etc. Once the rapid hormone fluctuations stopped after 10 years of monopause, we were able to again maintain a level balance. However, the exception to that has been, at any time her "Premerin" hormone dosage is changed, we find we have to fight the mania again and spend months adjusting meds.
Has any of you women with BP and into or beyond your menopause years experienced or noticed a simular pattern or was this just unique to our situation? Just curious.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I've mentioned many times here that progesterone hormone in a birth control pill (YAZ) sent me into the worst depression ever. Explains the instability I had in my 20's with birth control pills.
Hormones were probably created by the devil. I am considering having pdoc give me something for that time of the month. Trying hard to map out my moods for at least 2 months to work by.
