I have two boys ages 6 1/2 and 4. There Dad had a long list of problems. He was bipolar, manic and anti social personality disorder. At times he tried different meds and said they never worked. I don't know because that was before I ever knew him. What I worry is how much can children inherit from their parents? So far I think my kids are OK but have the normal issues of not listening to me. I do think my 6 year old may be headed to depression in the future. He is very sensitive and depression also runs in my family. I sort of wish I hadn't had kids because if there life is going to be as messed up as mine, it really isn't fair to them. Since I can't change that now, what do I do?

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...

I have bipolar and have never regreted being born, yes I have suffered from it but it took abuse to trigger the bipolar in me and then drugs to stabilise it. For some it takes many attempts to find the right mix of drug/drugs and with our bodies changing over time sometimes the drugs have to change with us so you have to keep trying.
I was loved by my bipolar mother and I remember that, I also was and still am a sensitive soul but don't worry about that its part of the reason why my better friends stay it has more positives than negatives.
Instill a love of life and an awareness of what special people they are, I'm sure that you will help to ground them emotionally so that they will fight for a great life IF they carry the bipolar gene and it is ever triggered...
