I've just got off the phone to one of my closest friends, we've been out of touch recently but i still confide in her, especially about my mental health issues, her mom works in a psychiatric unit so she has been brought up to understand and so far has been so supportive.
So i was just talking to her and she said....
"I reckon its all in your head blah blah blah
if you moved back in with your mom and went to the gym, started going out more you wouldn't need meds and youd be fine blah blah blah"
I was shocked, then livid. I've finally got myself some help after years of living in hell and this is my best friends reaction. That is so racked off!!!!!!! aaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh
Sorry - needed to rant.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
From your 'friend's' standpoint, maybe she thought she was giving sound advice. Some people THINK they understand being bipolar but they don't and many think meds are just a crutch. I wouldn't be alive right now if it weren't for meds.
Ignorant people....
peace, t
Ya, just stay in touch with her for the sole purpose of waiting til she gets the frigging flu or whatever and tell her it's all in her head and she should take up jogging! Some friggin' friend!!!
Us Bipolars can understand the non-bipolars mind as much as they can understand ours.
Assholes all of them.
I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, i cant see how i could get a kick out of it?
However, I also think they do care, they just don't want to believe it. My mom keeps saying "i dont understand any of this".
She has the internet, she knows the docs number, she has MY phone number, i'm sure she can find out what bipolar actually means if she can be bothered one day instead of whining. You may think i'm exaggerating but if you asked my mom what it was - she couldn't even tell you the symptoms. really.
At the end of the day, if it was my daughter (or anyone close to me) i'd make the effort to look it up and be supportive.
My dads even better - I havent told him and neither has my mom because he thinks that its not a mental illness unless you do something like run the streets naked attacking people. lol its not funny really but if i didnt laugh id cry!!!
Tell your so called "friend" to kiss off... With friends like that...sheesh! ((hugs))
