Hi,
I hope noone minds me joining this community, as i'm not officially diagnosed. I only recently told someone about whats happening, and theyve told me to see a psych because my therapist advised that i urgently need meds. I'm due to see them in a few days.
I have suffered the symptoms of bipolar, including at times really bad psychosis ever since i can remember. What I have may/may not be bipolar but i do know that somethings wrong, and this communtity seemed really friendly and helpful and to be honest i don't really know which way to turn.
When i do get put on meds whatever the outcome/diagnosis, i'm scared to tell people. I know all to well the stigma that comes with mental illness. I especially really don't want to tell my partner, he thinks im seeing the pdoc for rape counselling. However we live together so he will notice when i start my meds.
I can't see him trusting me around his daughter anymore which would break my heart. I don't want people to suddenly see me as this big threat - any advice???

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Of course some folks will always "shrink" from a label (excuse the pun), but hopefully your guy will see that you will be getting HELP, not getting Worse.
Best to you - :)
If your partner can take the time to learn about Bipolar, he could understand that we aren't going to harm anyone, especially our children.
Many hugs to you and update us after your Pdoc appt!!
Welcome Sally!
Naturally, i did a lot of research into this after i was told that and i do have pretty much all the classic symptoms.
Also a lecturer at my college has hinted at it before. And when i was at school some of the teachers thought i was using drugs as sometimes i would be very depressed and withdrawn, and the other times literally bouncing off the walls!!
