Anyone have any experience with Haloperidol? The doc has put my Dad on it and we don't know why. The only official diagnosis we've ever gotten is dementia. Anyway, he's drooling and a zombie on this medication. He is losing weight because he won't eat and he does not hear the phone ring or anything (he is in assisted living). The nurses called my brother today saying that they (nurses) thought he was over medicated and that they thought it was the Haloperidol.

Nana passed away two years ago. I still call and visit Papa every week or so. Last week my sewing machine broke and I mentioned it to Papa. He asked if I wanted Nana's sewing machine. I happily accepted. Well Sunday my uncle from out of town visited Papa and Papa mentioned to uncle that he gave me the machine. So uncle calls Mom and tells her I stole it! WHAT?! ABSOLUTELY NOT! I didnt even know...

The injection form is Haldol.
Terrible trauma.
* This drug should be used only when there is no other choice.
* Sudden death is a (rare) possibility with Haldol.
* This is one of a group of psychiatric drugs which causes a serious and sometimes fatal reaction called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. It may cause body temperature raising, rigid muscles and coma (passing out), rapid heart beat and breathing, sweating, shaking and seizures. The death rate is 20%.
* Haldol causes brain and eye damage with long-term use. With epilepsy, it can change the pattern of seizures.
* This drug is eliminated in breast milk and affects an unborn child. It should not be given to nursing or pregnant women.
* Children are sensitive to the nervous system reactions of this drug.
* Avoid overheating your body in the sun, saunas, hot baths, etc.
* Tell your nurse, doctor, pharmacist or dentist about any other drugs you are taking before any new treatment. Check with them before you take any medicine, even if it isn't a prescription drug.
* There is no known treatment for tardive dyskinesia (TD). The brain damage done with this drug can be permanent. If symptoms appear, the drug must be stopped. One of the early signs of TD is a "worm-like" movement of the tongue. Stop the drug and see your doctor immediately if this happens to you.
* You should not drive, operate machines, play sports, or do dangerous things until you know what this drug does to you.
* Stop taking this drug and contact your doctor immediately if you notice any of the problems or conditions listed or anything unusual is happening, especially changes in your eyesight.
* Withdrawal symptoms can be severe with psychiatric drugs. If you stop using them, do it slowly.
They fucked up cos they 'lost' the notes. So I was given it again a few weeks after and went into full seizure again, knowing where I had to go this time. It's worse knowing that I had to do all that again.
People on the outside think it's cool cos you are 'calmed'.
All that's happened is that you have been tranquilised like some dumb animal. They don't feel the subtle pains you do.
Not all animals are dumb.
A friend of mine, who now lives in a mental hospital for various things gave me a few. He told me if I couldn't sleep to take one.
Well I gave one to a girl I knew, she took it and her boyfriend called 911. The EMT's in turn asked to speak to me, and asked what I gave her. I went ahead and told them. She got hospitalized.
I took one for myself, sleep but really passed out. When I woke up I was so out of it. I tried to get on the freeway to drive and just couldn't. My visualizations were to bizarre. Everything seemed 2-D. I tossed the rest of it. I also missed work for a couple of days.
It was a bad experience for me, and I drove on every psychedelic known to man. Much less every drug and alcohol mixture I could think of.
I have never been so scared as when I was driving on it.
It's seriously fucked and people hide the facts.
as are all the anti-psychotics.
Haldol was the first one developed and remains the most potent. Haldol helped bring me out of mania more than once so it must've been administered properly. I can't think of any good reason why haldol would be given to a dementia patient. Pluck has provided
some good information, but Pluck, many things can be (rarely) fatal, too!
I won't begin feeling it until tomorrow. Halidol is one powerful med, but who knows how strong mine was or your dads???
