Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I posted this in the self-injury group but thought it might have some relevance here too. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi. I am new to this support group. I am bipolar and cut when I am rapid cycling. I have the worst urge to cut right now! How do you guys stop yourselves from doing it??? I have healing wounds from a few days ago that are hideous but when I look at them I want to do it again and see the blood. Am I the only one who feels like this??

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
aggressively.
1. From what I read this is very common. I recommend reading Madness by Marya Hornbacher. She was big into cutting and may speak to you in her words.
2. I don't cut but understand you; here's how. I have chronic pain and when I am manic I do things that I fully realize will make my pain escalate to horrible levels, like going on the treadmill. This to me is a form of cutting: It's not the blood but the pain and using it to punish myself, to make sure I feel, etc. I have never felt the need to go beyond that but I have so much pain I can "use" and/or mental imaging that is designed to make me feel bad like imagining my husband cheating on me. These are my knives. They don't leave scars but they are as painful.
I cannot stop myself but I hope you can. My wishes are with you. N.
For me its the feeling, it lets me know I am still alive, that I still feel.
I wish I new how to stop.
could take away some of your burdens and pain
