Can you take 2 antipsychotics at the same time?

Can you take 2 antipsychotics at the same time? Does anyone on the board do that? E.g. Zyprexa/olanzapine and Latuda or etc. etc.

Yes multiple anti-psychotics are often prescribed by Pdocs to control BiPolar Sysmptoms.

Yes, it’s common. I took geodon and seroquel together for years before just sticking with seroquel and a new med cocktail..

The thing to be aware of is often if the doses aren't right they'll cancel each other out and your symptoms don't get better.

when i was on zyprexa and haldol they took me off of haldol doc said it could make my heart stop other doc just prescribed what the other one said they said sensitive heart

Haldol's a little different. Its rarely RX'd outside of a hospital, because of the severity of the side effects.

i know i took haldol for years high dose my new doc took me off and put me on zyprexa i gained a ton of weight and stopped it went back to my skinny self nut responded best to zyprexa went back on no real weight gain since they think i am not taking it because no real weight gain it works some and i did not get any better on the 2 a little worse and they started fooling around with dose so was happy she took me off

funny thing about haldol i had weird cravings one was beer i thought that i was a true alcoholic because i drank so much 2 6 packs at a time 1 a day when i worked and all weekend when he took me off of haldol it went away strange

I had a patient once who was on Haldol and craved (and ate way too much) chalk. Chewed on chalk like a kid would candy...it was so gross. But she couldn't help herself. So, needless to say they didn't keep her on it very long.

    I seriously do not see how things coukd ever get better. Its one thing after the other. Now, instead of just dealing with god awful pain and mixed states all the time, i was told i likely have serotonin storm thanks to painkillers. So, not only do i have nothing to stop this pain, but now i need to taper off of my antidepressant, and yes is it causing withdrawal. I honestly can not take this much...

    I've been thinking a lot.  A lot of my depression comes not having enough connection and purpose in life.  I think purpose and meaning really just come from family.  And so what if there is something wrong with your family.  Just devastating.  And then, what is your purpose. To find another family?  That is nearly impossible.  Not a real one anyway.  I've just been thinking a lot about...
