Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, but there are just a ton of other problems I have that don't fit what I understand about BP. I know for certain that I have Severe Mixed State episodes and Major depressive episodes. But in the periods between episodes I still get do depressed I am unable to get out of bet for days at a time. My mind races all the time and I have bouts of complete memory loss. I also have periods of confusion where I simply can not form a coherent thought. I am terrified of meeting new people, and go for months at a time with absolutely no ambition to do anything at all. I am unable to trust anyone, and always feel like I am a burden and bother to the very few people I talk to.
I could go on and on with all the different things I experience. I have been to several Psychiatrists, but they have so far been locked into the bipolar diagnosis. To date I have not actually found any meds that help at all. I am completely discouraged that I will ever find relief and stability.
I am desperate for some advice

All those symptoms you described are symptoms of Bp. You need a mood stablizer and if you are on one you must need something new, sometimes it takes a while to find the right med and you may have to try several before you find it.

I agree with beckyp, you may even need two mood stabilizers. For example my daughter takes one (Lamictal) to help with depressive episodes and another (Geodon) to help with manic episodes.

I think you need more mood stabilizers as well. I take lamictal and depakote(which I hate bc of the weight gain) but it does make my mood more stable. I had to increase the doseage bc of mania, but seems to help.

What you wrote sounds almost exactly like how I was before I was DX'd and got meds.It has taken several med changes and little over a year or so to find a combo of meds that worked for me.. It will happen it just may take time. I know that is hard to grasp when we are in pain and unstable. I just have to tell myself that it will get better. Work with your Doctor and or Therapist. I know You can Do it. You sound like a survivor! Best wishes.

Wow..I just read about myself. All are polar symptoms, which can be managed with meds. To get the right combo is a hit and miss at first, for me it was anyway. Stay stong, keep your chin up. As you try new meds most take a good 6 weeks or so to get in your system to even make a difference.
