Paxil treats depression, it is an anti depressant. Therfore, it can trigger or "help" bring on mania. I am on paxil and love it. I am on a low dose not only does it help with my blues but it has cut my anxiety down tremendously. I am prone to mania and have had three episodes since I began paxil. I would not stop taking paxil however. For me, th benefits outweigh the problems. Good Luck Nadia the massive blogger girlee!

Yep, most antid's can cause mania. Supposedly, Wellbutrin is one of the ones that doesn't. If you're truly bipolar, most Psychiatrists would start u on a mood stabilizer, like Lithium, Tegretol or Lamictal; not just and antidepressant.

All anti-dep i have taken make me manic except wellbutrin.

You can be manic ESPECIALLY if you are on Paxil WITHOUT a mood stabilizer. Did the doctor who prescribed the Paxil know about your BP?? Antidepressants, especially tricyclics and SSRI's, are known to cause BP's to "switch" into manic phases. Mania and psychosis are listed as side effects on most antidepressants. The general consensus is that antidepressants should never be given alone to a patient with BP. They should only be given with a mood stabilizer and only when absolutely necessary. There are some who feel that antidepressants should never be given to BP's at all because the rate of switching even when on a mood stabilizer is still around 5%.

I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
