I have a friend who is BP and thinking of checking into an inpatient place for her use of marajiuana and prescription addictions in the past. She doesn't really want to stop but her husband says he has had enough. How can I be a support to her? Her manias make her really hard to deal with sometimes, even for me, a very close friend. Also, her depressions become really intense. Any advice on what I could do to be suppotive?

I'd encourage your friend to go inpatient now instead of waiting for the crisis that is sure to come and support her with your presence, phone calls and visits. Visits from my friends meant a lot to me when I was in hospital. They didn't have to be cheerleaders, we just talked about regular stuff and that was enough. You'll be remembered as a friend, just as I remember mine!
