My 15 year old son has been treated for bipolar disorder for 5 years and I am having some grave concerns as I watch him enter into puberty.
Something seems amiss, his cognitive abilities seem slowed, or maybe more like there are occasional mis-fires. He starts stories in the middle of the story, he can't make what I would consider simple logical inferences, in fact in a lot of cases he seems incapable of any sort of problem solving at all.
He's taking lithium, Welbutrin and Abilify.
Anybody out there in or gone through a similar situation? What should I be looking out for? Is there a quantitative method of diagnosing bipolar disorder? In retrospect, the methods used to diagnose my son seem very empirical and I now find myself questioning whether the kid is even bipolar. Where to go?

i suggest taking him to a new doc for a second opinion. i have read that adolescent BP is very tricky to diagnose. Find a BP specialist (every pdoc has an area they are best in) and see what s/he has to say.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
