My psych tried to tell me to do ONE thing a day.Have one goal.
I found that daunting at the time.I couldn't even lift my gaze to meet his or move without tremoring.
At the time the goal was to shift away from suicidal thoughts.
He was right though.
Small goals steadily became more significant. It's the long run that's impossible to see.Until you just feel it.And you relax ...a little.
What ONE piece of psych (or other) advice works for you that could assist someone here ?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
btw, i used to run 25 miles a weeks, but that was years ago
it was hard tho, stepping outside of my home that first time whe i was so d@#$ depressed to go for a walk, but i did it, and am still doing it

The other thing I use, not from a shrink, but it's what we call an "attitude adjustment". Really just doing a 180 on the way I'm thinking. For instance, if I'm depressed, I force myself to think thoughts that I would have if I weren't depressed. Looking for glass half full things instead of half empty. Sometimes I can even trick myself out of it or meditate myself into an attitude adj. Hope this makes sense, it's hard to describe.
