Hi everyone. I'm Amy and I just lost my best friend/sister on October 5th. We were only a year apart (to the day) and have always been very close. She collapsed at home while she was getting the kids off to school/daycare. Emilee, her 6 year old, called 911 and Jen was taken to the hospital. They sedated and intubated her there, and once she was stable enough, they did a catscan. She was then diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary emboli. Both lungs were full of them. They started treatment right away, and she was admitted into the ICU. The next morning, she had a brain bleen and was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. The doctors met with us and let us know there was nothing they could do because she had a massive stroke. She was pronounced brain dead after 2 days at HCMC. A bit of comfort in all this: she was a donor and since she was so healthy, they were able to use both kidneys, her liver, her pancrease, heart valves, corneas and other tissues like bone and skin.
So that is my story. I've cut my hours back at work because I'm having trouble keeping everything on one plate (I'm helping my brother-in-law out with the kids). Thanks for listening to my story. I look forward to getting to know you all and offering my support to you.
Thanks,
Amy

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Thank you for sharing your story and offering your support.. I hope we can support you in the same way. Things will undoubtly be hard/scary/lonely and, confusing in the near future. I personally have found it harder in a lot of ways as time has passed rather than the other way around. Things like forgetting my dad's face or my gran's voice almost drove me over the edge at one point but they came back. Talk about your sister a lot, not just because her kids need to know her and need to know their were wanted and loved but because you will need it too. Best wishes and a few hugs.
I will keep you and your family in prayer today.
You have come to the right place for help. There are many here who know your pain...
God Bless You,
Tim (Jenae's Dad)
