My dad died this last sunday, 11/4/2007. His funeral was just yesterday. I'm trying to figure our how to do everything i need to do now and making sure i dont forget anything. I live with my mom and my dad had always taken care of the house, my sisters are both living elsewhere so i'm going to have to be the "man of the house" how have some of you handled it. Plus my birthday and the holidays are comimng up too, any tips on how to stay stronf for my family?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
don't be too strong, let yourself grieve... let yourself feel whatever emotions come up..be kind to yourself... its a long road, and you will have leaps forward, then go backwards again...but it doesn't matter,
just remember there is no right or wrong way to live through the loss of your Dad... we all do it differently, but here we all do it together, and we will all walk with you as you move through the next period of time
((((hugs))))
You need to take good care of yourself in order to be strong for your family.
It is so against our nature to do that, but that is how you do it.
Be sure you get some "alone" time or some time for doing something nice for yourself.
Check online there may be some checklists available for finding out what all needs to be taken care of - even your funeral home director may have some info, or know how to get it.
Network - do you and/or your mom have some friends who can help you with some stuff? They are usually more than happy to help, and can be a way for them to feel a part of the family healing, and their own.
Let people in to help. It will help in the long run. My daughter just died in September. Being strong all the time will make you hurt more later down the road. Be kind to yourself, Your mum will understand, All your mum needs from you are hugs and hugs and more hugs. The funeral parlor will do everything for you. Let your sisters do some phone calls. This is a family thing and all should help out. Being a man to me is holding your mother until her tears run dry and do it again and again.
