There is a life long story behind this and if anyone is interested I will be happy to explain but just to make a long story short for now, I had spinal fusion surgery to cure my severe 90 curvature in my spine I had minimal Scoliosis but my spine was actually twisted and it is congential. I was diagnosed with Shuermann's Disease when I was 14 years old officially and spent the next 4 years in braces (including the Milwakee Brace which was pure torture) I spent my day 23 hours a day in braces. I was wondering if anyone else here suffers from this very rare disorder??? I have only heard of a few people who have been diagnosed and I think that is why it has made it so hard to deal with the illness. thank you for listening!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
know what my doctor is going to do, I would love any information I can get about shuermann's disease. And and advice I can get. Thank you.
I'm 42yr old nurse with severe Kyphosis and S-shaped Scoliosis. I have been over weight my entire life and therefore my disability was not readily noticed as a skeletal deformity but "she looks humped because she's fat". My back is founded like a turtle shell and comes to a point mid back of I bend down.
My little sister who is 1yr younger and was thin as a child was diagnosed at age 11 because her shoulders were leaning to right noticeably and she had surgery in Downtown Houston for Harrington Rods. She has some residual arthritis and back pain but she is straight in her spine.
I was angry for a long time at being over looked but it's my own faultnow, over the years I had weight loss surgery, got married and had two boys now 15yr and 10yrs old and kept chugging along!About 2-3 years ago my back pain worsened up to the point I was having to take Rx pain meds, muscle relaxers, antidepressants, anxiety meds blood pressure meds and I now have Respiratory issues and lung compression.
I am high risk for Surgery and have always been dead set against it but my quality of life has dwindled. I had to stop Nursing this last November and have been fighting to get my Social Security Disability Benefits!
My advice. Don't wait to do something.
I wish I had done a lot of things different.
Good luck to all!
