I came to find out when walking past a glass fronted bank several years ago that I walk bent over like you wouldn't believe! I caught myself in my peripheral vision while walking somewhere to meet my husband. Then found out he told chiro that I walk like a 90 yr old woman...I guess he didn't want to hurt my feelings, that was kind of him. Then a family reunion in summer, relatives were saying that it was good to see me being able to stand up straight this year. I had no idea I wasn't standing straight, and I was humiliated that people were looking at me as if I was "different"! I am also asked at times if my back is hurting. This attacks one's vanity, whether you are male or female.
Has anyone else had to deal with this aspect of our disability? Does this mean we need a brace in public? I tried one and it didn't help at all with pain, and it makes one look fat as it is so bulky, and it kept coming undone at the velcro straps! Is this posture a part of degenerated discs or is it the tragic spinal curvature some of us have to cope with???

I get comments all the time about my "perfect" posture but it's a pain, literally. If I'm standing too long my back, neck, and legs, will ache as I don't have strong back muscles since I can't work some of them well.
Even though out problems aren't the same, I've found lifting weights has helped relieve some of the pain when I stand for long periods of time. Maybe it would help your posture.
