I am new to this community and was amazed that massage wasn't a choice of treatment.I am a big believer in massage. So many aches and pain are due to stress and strain on muscles. There are also many new massage businesses popping up everywhere that it has forced prices to be more competative.Massage is not just a luxury .It is a good way to maintain your health. It increases circulation. It stretches the muscles. You release endorphins.so your body makes its own painkillers. It Releases lactic acid from muscles so it helps you detoxify. There are so many different forms of massage .There is swedish which is more of a lite touch for relaxation. There is myo fascial release that is deeper and more targeted on stretching muscle. There is trigger point not so relaxing but very effective at relieving knots.Thai massage is a combo of massage and passive stretch. And many more modalalities.
Maybe you tried massage and found it too gentle or too rough.Maybe you didn't get the right type of massage.
If you decide to try massage don't be afraid to tell therapist what you like.If you need more or less pressure tell therapist. It isn't necessarily no pain no gain If you are tensing up you are working against one another. You should always know that you are in control and not the therapist. It is your time and your money so speak up.
I am not saying that there aren't other options to relieve pain.I just really believe in this one.I hope this helps someone .

Me too. I have a great lady who does mine. It never takes away the pain, but sure does decompress the muscles which tighten up where the source of the pain is coming from.

I definitely believe massage therapy has a place in back pain, BUT it depends on what type of back pain. I have herniated discs which are pressing on nerves that shoot down my leg. Now having a massage by a professional is useless, my muscles are not tense. In fact laying on a massage table is quite uncomfortable..but it doesn't mean that a good back rub at home with someone I love doesn't relax me and it most certainly helps me take my mind off my pain, for a little bit.

I have been taking physical therapy for 5 weeks now. I have a caring PT who gives me myofascial massages. Sure it hurts and hurts 24 hours after but it certainly helps with my mobility issues. She is a real jewel!

I tried a massage on my honeymoon when we went on a cruise. She actually dislocated my shoulder blade trying to get a "knot" out. My Chiropractor had to fix it over time, because the muscles had been holding it in the "wrong" place for the rest of the week on the cruise. I kind of veer away from them now.

I go to a place where people are training to be professionals at massage. It's really inexpensive and the people are at a level where they know what they are doing. The only difference between that and a spa is that you leave all of your cloths on. anyone can google massage schools in there area and find this kind of thing. I going to go every week!

I agree with massage being a great option for some people. I've tried it once, but it's rather expensive. Fortunately they use a massage technique when I go to physical therapy to loosen me up. It's going to take a while to release all the tension. Even the physical therapist is shocked at how tense I am all over my shoulders and back. She's working really hard on me.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
