Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

I have a 10 year old son with asd & sematic pragmatic disorder.
He attends a mainstream school, and the school are not supportive.
The psychologist, gp, and paediatrician are supportive.
Now my son wants to kill himself, and I believe him, its not just verbalisation, but he tells me how hes going to do it, and when and where.
He says he hates himself because of school as they make him feel stupid.
If I complain to the school, they say there is not any truth in what he complains about, however today I learnt that he is speaking the truth as I asked his class friends.
So my son if I force him to attend school can be shouted at, told of and ridiculed, and now Im wondering how do I deal with this?( Usually to get him to attend I pull him out of bed and get him dressed and carry him, pull him to the car with him screaming.)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Also, I have a website, chat1autism.wetpaint.com/ and I have stuff specifically about bullying etc. Please tell him he can vent and tell me whats going on. I would love to help because after dealing with it, and trying to kill myself, I want something good to come from it, and that would be stopping it from happening to someone who also has autism and I would love to talk with him. It breaks my heart... Also, sometimes you can come to the school and have lunch with him...If he's really upset but you feel like he still needs to go to school, get an aid ASAP..they make sure that the kids and the teachers behave.

Kris
Get an advocate or call some of the agencies in your state that deal with autism.
I worked at an autism agency for 13 years and have a son with autism too. I have heard your story before.
You need to start fighting hard for your son. DOn't let these people torture him and get away with it.
I know because I have been there done that!
1) An IEP change for a different class environment, maybe to a different classroom or different teacher
2) Home schooling?
3) Therapy/ counseling
4) Antidepressant medication if prescribed by a doctor
5) Getting him into a positive social group after school that he likes, such as a chess club or therapeutic horseback riding or Boys & Girls Club, or any other similar club
6) County mental health services, through the IEP, called "wraparound services", where he could get counseling in your home a couple of days a week, for emotional support. They could even come in the mornings to help him get off to school!
7) Help from your Regional Center, also to help him get off to school.
I re-emailed an inclusion worker who has contacts and she has called a multi-agency meeting, to see the way forward. I cannot bear the thought of sending back into the school who according to themselves do everything possible for my son and dont need any more advice. We have 8 months left till hopefully he attends the seconday school we have chosen. Once he's there he will receive the education in which he will flourish. Another thing is Im waiting for a decision from the local authority to award him a "statement of educational needs" so if he does not get that I have another fight on my hands!
Thanks to Kris I will get him to contact you later if thats ok thanks so much it means alot to me xx

Kris

My son is 11 starting the puberty and that is changing everything!
