Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

I have to wonder why people do not listen to us.... I have to tell you the story to help you understand... I took my daugther to get her hair cut today. Now she hates to have her hair cut so we don't do this that often. She is 12 with autism and she has aggressive behaviors... I tell the lady that is cutting her hair that she will have to hurry or my daughter will get tired of sitting here and get really mad. Let's just say I prepared her and warned her of my daughter. My daughter got mad after half her hair was cut. This lady was so slow.... anyway I saw my daughter getting mad and told the lady that I was sorry but I need to get my daughter out of here and go or she will hurt somebody or your store that she is done and that I would pay her full price for the cut. The lady kept trying to finish my daughter's hair I told her that we were done several times. Finally I got my daughter out of the chair and told the lady we had to go I would finish her hair later. I guess I made the lady mad.. I told her that I would pay her full price. While on the way to the check out the lady came up behind my daughter with the buzz cutters and was buzzing her neck. Well my daughter reacted in a bad way. She smacked the lady then stared knocking things off the shelves and tearing that place up. I paid full price and then was trying to pick things up and they kicked me out of the place and told us to never come back.... I'm so sorry but where is what happened my fault???
And why does no one understand what we as parents go through and we know our children better that anyone else? I left that store and boy I broke down and started crying. I just felt that lady was in the wrong by not listening to me and then when my daughter showed her anger I was the bad parent and it was all my fault....
To let you all know my daughter is on rispadol(don't know if I spelled that right) for these aggressive behaviors and the doctor just upped her dosage today.
I was just wondering if anyone has been in that kind of situation and what do you do and how do you deal with your own emotions? I have found myself crying for hours after my daughter has an out burst like that. I know that I am not the only one in this world going through this but sometimes I feel like it.
What do you do?????

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Just keep in mind that our children were gifts sent to us for a reason. I know somedays you wonder why, but look back at all the days you couldn't imagine your life without them. Maybe not today, or tomorrow, but someday, you will look back and have a great laugh....that lady was a moron!!!! I am sure she was just trying to be helpful and do her job. I bet the next time she has a child with autism in her chair, and you know she will, when the parent says the kid is done....they're done!!!
Call the Manager. And tell your friends.
I dont know what this womans issues are, but she is way out of line, and should be out of a job.
The 1st time you said to stop the haircut was done.
Think of it this way. Youre getting a haircut. You tell the stylist youre done. She doesnt stop because she doesnt like how it looks. You get up. She follows you towards the cashier & uses the electric clippers on you. You have to strike the stylist get her to leave your hair alone. Whos in the wrong?
Just because its a child, especially as special needs child, doesnt mean the stylist is the boss.
Aveda salons are usally good at working with the kids. If you can contact a CARD center they might be able to also suggest one that will work for you. It took Brian about 5 times before he would accept it. Sometimes these hairdressers will come to your home too. Its not uncommon. You are doing a Wonderful Job. Ebb and Flow with the sitations when they arrise, let her have her outburst,, meltdown and then move on with your other items for the day. Get MAD, STAND YOUR GROUND with people like that, Do Not let them push your buttons..
Hang in there we are here for support.
