Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
What do our children need? How to get it for them?

Hello parents and caregivers! I have an intresting question, what does your child need? If you have a need, are lacking services, could enhance your child's life, make just one day go a little smoother, what are your needs? LET'S STAY FOCUSED ON THE HERE AND NOW ISSUES AT HAND. Post a service your child recieves and how you recieved the help. Here's mine:
I recieve services from MHMRA FOR ALEX
How: got him tested, via request his doctor, they set up services after DMR.
I recieve respite from the United Cebreal Paulsy for Alex. How: My son's service coordinator assisted us in getting the service.
I need : home modifications, adaptive equiptment, more training for "adolescent" and "the pubertity thing" I sure we can all come up with things, and if the state your living in offers a service, one that someone elses does not, or is unaware of, we can petition for that service in our state as well! I know that there is more out there, just need real friends to help put the pices together and make a connection!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
well in washington state, where i sit steven has not recieved any bennis from the state. Respite? ha.. we are still on a waiting list, i recently found out they are taking children off the list, and asked for us to be re-val again. I have to call back...
Childcare? nope not any here that I am aware of, thats where the respite falls into place right? I am blessed to have a great friend who also has 2 children w/autism after school she cares for Steven until my schools out.
Steven had to leave daycare when he was about 7 for his aggressive behavior etc. They just were not able or trained for that matter to take care of him.
I want and need some of the same things you mentioned too adaptive bike would be grand.
I want to open* a day camp place where it is loaded with sensory fun.
There OWN play place~
So moms like you , me everyone else can go get a hair cut? With No worries about our child.
There is some after school programs for the kids, I have to hire a one on one for Steven for that program. At this point his day is long enough and he needs his own space after school.
I work for the school district w/special needs pre schoolers. This way I can have the same schedual as Steven. Minus that 40 mins after school.
So now if I could get the public school poeple to either pay or provide that situation instead of 25 hours of worthless ARD meetings just give my kid 25 hours of appropriate related services. But no they need be to bring yearsoftears over and blow them out of their cushy jobs.
In the meantime Oli is getting the service and social interaction that will help him continue to develop the skills he needs to.
