Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
Using Drama to help children on spectrum

My sons O.T said their was a family using actors to help with their child by trying to get to his way of thinking and interacting.I think that sounds like a good idea.It takes so many people to help.Has anyone ever had about this?I know its way out of my budget.

WHEN fRANCIS (MY SON) WAS AT HIS LAST SCHOOL, THEY DID DRAMA TWICE A WEEK WITH THE ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY.. IT WAS SOOOOOO HELPFUL, THEY USED IT TO TEACH BODY LANGUAGE, FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, EMPATHY AND SOOO MUCH MORE, HE WAS SO LUCKY TO DO THIS. EVENTUALLY, THEY MADE A DVD FOR OTHER SCHOOLS TO USE AS IT WAS SO GOOD AND THEY DID A PERFORMANCE OF MIDSOMMER NIGHTS DREAM IN LEICESTER SQUARE. IT WAS REALLY FANTASTIC, I WOULD HIGHLY ECCOMMEND THE USE OF DRAMA. I WILL SEE IF I CAN LOCATE A COPY OF THE DVD AND UPLOAD IT SOMETIME, IF THAT WOULD BE USEFUL?

It is something in the back of our minds to try when our son is older. There is a drama club for kids that is very respected and has many ASD kids. One day...

Like Bubsmum said, it taught Alex how to show and relate to expressing himself, etc. When he was small we used to play out the roles of the community workers, doctor, nurse, fireman, police, judge, jury, perimediac, and the list goes on...... he learned their roles and functions in the community as well he learned how each persons emotions were attached, like doctor caring and gentle, their to make you better when sick. Alex never got help from an actor, just the school , they had stations set up for role play and did skits among the classes, at home I also did the same, bought the costumes and we role played at home. Now if he could only remember it's 991 !! NOT 911 IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
