So I have come back from Kansas and I am now working towards drawing up a plan of action for Matt. It looks like I will be moving there the end of June. I am going to be working with him about 30 hours a week in the summer as well as during the school year. The current goals that I have for him are going to the bathroom on his own, learning communication skills, and learning to swim. I have asked my aunt what options she is open to as far as teaching him communication skills and she said that they are doing a little sign language with him at school but she is open to whatever will help him. She is going to try and get me a copy of his IEP as well. As for as getting him to go to the bathroom on his own, she had him potty trained completely 2 summers ago then he went back to school and stopped. Any ideas why? Alos I would like him to try new foods as well if that is a possibility. So any ideas? Things that work and dont work? Anyone know of any grants that i could apply for to get him extra things. Any knowledge and help I would appriciate. For those of you who have not read about my cousin Matt, he is an 11 year old with moderate to severe Autisim and he is nonverbal. I am going to move to Kansas and be a one on one with him after school and on the weekends while I go to school to get may masters in Special ed during the day. if you want to know more about Matt please ask me and I will tell you.

He is one of the best movement disorder secialists in the midwest. I know he is extremely busy on the lecture circuit now and in fact not taking new patients there is a huge waiting list for him. BUT.... I feel like my visits are not what they use to be. He...
I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...
